Or maybe better yet, re-introduce yourself! To make this community feel a bit more like home, I would like to invite you to introduce yourself to this community, however you'd like.

    1. Name & where you're located

    2. Favourite Excel "hack" that you know

    3. Advice you've received from a female leader in your life

See you around in the community!

I'll start things off! I'm Irene and I'm based out of Toronto, Canada. My favourite "hack" in Excel is pressing alt, "i", and "r" or "c" to add a row or column without having to right-click my mouse! It changed my world when I could move around Excel that much faster.

The advice I received that I still hold onto until this day was from my first manager at my first job. She told me that life is all about finding out what you like and don't like. It's very simple, but it reminded me that I won't know what I'm passionate about unless I give it a try.

I look forward to hearing from the community and building this together! ✨

Hi, my name is Patsy Carvache, and I work remotely in Palm Bay, Florida. I love excel and love to learn new tricks. I recently learned how to do queries, and it is fascinating. One piece of advice that a past supervisor gave me is that you should always reconcile a number in two different ways. When in doubt, test it out.

Welcome, Patsy! So glad to have you here. It's been a while since I've played around in Excel, but I've heard queries is a very handy tool.

I love that advice - in my previous role at my old organization, I had to manage the marketing budget and testing the numbers was a huge part because I didn't want to report anything incorrectly!

Glad to have you here - let me know if there's any topics of conversation or ideas for the community! 😄

Hi everyone! My name is Olivia MacDonald and I am a senior FP&A Manager here at Vena. I am based in Burlington, just about 40 minutes outside of Toronto, although I was born and raised in Ireland.

My favourite excel hack is customising your toolbar. If there is a tool you use all the time, try right-clicking it and then adding it to your Quick Access Toolbar. For me, Alt+4 will always be the format painter (I am a big fan of using keyboard shortcuts!).

The best advice I have received from a female leader is to embrace the discomfort of putting yourself out there. You never know what career opportunities you could be missing out on because you didn't build an internal and external presence.

Woohoo, welcome Olivia!! So glad to see other Venanites in here 🎉

Woah, have not used Alt+4 before but definitely will need to use that moving forward! And loving that advice - there's always that discomfort you experience when you try something new :)

    Hi Everyone!!

I'm so excited to see this group being set up, hoping it gains a lot of traction!  I find that it is still unusually difficult to be a woman leader so I will take any connections, advice, etc. to help grow my confidence!

I'm Jessica and am based in Grand Rapids, MI.  One of my FAVORITE or should I say FAVOURITE places to travel is TO, so very excited to see the Canadian presence here!  I'm new to my company in the FP&A team and have been tasked with building out Vena after our initial integration.  My favorite Excel trick that I just learned is the Power Query > Transform > Unpivot feature.  It has saved me so much time and is easy to understand and maintain!

The best advice that I have received is lean into my empathetic leadership style.  It's not often that Servant Leadership is truly used in day-to-day management, so it is good to try something different especially when it comes from a caring place!  Aside from that, I've been told 'if you don't like something, leave'.  I think that is important to know you have options, so many people endure cultures that do not work for them.  Everyone deserves the right to be happy and have happy people working for them!

    Welcome, Jessica!!

Thanks so much for sharing your story! I'm sure lots of people are in the same boat, and it's comforting to know we're all on the same journey. I'm hoping the wonderful people in the community will be a great support and that we can lean on each other as we grow.

Toronto is such a fun city, especially in the summer! Hopefully you can make the trip up here and visit Vena some time!

That is such great advice and I wish I learned that earlier in my career. Hopefully this resonates with another person in the community! 🥰
